COUNSELLING

Youth friendly, non-judgemental, confidential and FREE

We have a super friendly Youth Counsellor and her name is Sam Scott.
Sam works at YOSS on Monday to Thursdays.
Sam can help you to express your feelings, cope with stress, do things differently and feel ok about being you

  • Our counselling service is voluntary - this means that you want to be here and that no one is making you.
  • The first session is 'checking each other out'.  You get to meet Sam and see if you like her and she gets to chat with you about what is going on.  You can bring your family and friends with you so that they can check us out too! After this first session we will be able to talk about if and how we can help or if there is someone else who can help and support you more. You get to tell us if you want to come back!
  • When you come to see us it normally takes about 50 minutes
  • Things that you tell us are confidential.  If you tell us something that worries us (like about hurting yourself, someone else or you are being hurt) then we will talk to you about this and together make a plan if we have to tell someone else.
  • Our service is FREE (this is because we get funding from the District Health Board to provide you with a service).  This means that sometimes we have a waiting list.
  • Sam is trained and receives supervision - this helps us to make sure you get a quality service.
  • Our counselling service is free for young people aged 10-24 years old who live in Palmerston North and are not able to access counselling through statutory organisations.
  • To make an appointment just give our office a ring (355 5906) and ask to talk to Sam.  We will talk to you about how we can help.
